AION 2 Global Launch Date Confirmed: October 5, 2026

NC finally named the day. At gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25, 2026, a Global Release Date Trailer put AION 2's worldwide free-to-play launch on Monday, October 5, 2026, on Steam and PURPLE across North America, South America, Europe and Asia — and the official Steam release field has been updated to match. Founder's Pack Early Access is unchanged at September 30 and now has a defined end, October 4, with an open Launch Scale Test on September 17-18 in between. Outlets are reporting the move out of September as a delay; NC has not called it one or given a reason.

NC named the day: Monday, October 5, 2026

On August 25, 2026, during gamescom Opening Night Live in Cologne, NC premiered an AION 2 Global Release Date Trailer and put a calendar day on the launch for the first time: Monday, October 5, 2026. The global service goes live on PC through Steam and NC's PURPLE launcher, with regional servers in North America, South America, Europe and Asia. The official Steam store page's release field now reads October 5, 2026, replacing the "September 2026" label it had carried since July. This is the announcement we said Opening Night Live was the obvious venue for when NC confirmed the showcase appearance on August 6.

As of August 31, 2026, this is the position of record. Every earlier date on this site — the September 2026 month from the Summer Game Fest Launch Reveal Trailer, and the early-October launch we could only infer from the September 30 Early Access start — is now superseded by an explicitly announced day.

It is a delay from September, and outlets are calling it one

Gematsu's headline on the day was blunt — AION 2 "delayed to October 5 worldwide" — and it is accurate against NC's own prior guidance. The June 5, 2026 Launch Reveal Trailer said the game was "launching globally this September," and Steam carried a September 2026 planned-release label for months. October 5 moves the free-to-play launch out of that month. NC did not frame the announcement as a delay and has not published a stated reason for the shift; the delay characterisation comes from the outlets, not from NC.

The size of the move is small — days, not quarters — and it resolves a contradiction that had been sitting in NC's own published dates since July. A 5-day Founder's Pack head start beginning September 30 could never have ended inside September, so a September launch label and a September 30 Early Access start were never compatible. October 5 is exactly where the arithmetic pointed. What changed on August 25 is that NC said it out loud.

One scheduling note worth keeping in view: on NC's August 11 Q2 earnings call, co-CEO Park Byung-moo told analysts the company was "adjusting schedules and testing, especially as Aion 2 Global coincides with the November release of GTA6." An early-October launch sits comfortably ahead of that. NC has not linked the two publicly, and we are not asserting a causal connection — only recording that the remark predates the date announcement by two weeks.

The full pre-launch calendar

Three official dates now stand between here and launch. A Launch Scale Test runs September 17 to 18 — an open server-stress test on Steam that anyone can sign up for, covered in full in our Launch Scale Test breakdown. Founder's Pack Early Access then runs September 30 through October 4, five days, for owners of any of the three Founder's Pack tiers ($24.99 / $49.99 / $99.99), locked to the platform the pack was bought on. Free-to-play launch follows on October 5.

The Early Access window is unchanged from NC's July 22 notice — September 30, five days — so nobody who pre-purchased has lost anything; the announcement simply pins the far end of that window to a launch day. Early Access buyers get the head start they paid for, and October 5 is when everyone else can join for free.

NC has not announced whether Early Access characters and progress move onto the same servers at launch, beyond the Early Access Server / Launch Server split it described in its July 17 notice, and it has not published a launch-day maintenance window or an unlock time for October 5. Both remain open questions as of August 31, 2026.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is the AION 2 global release date?

Monday, October 5, 2026. NC announced the date at gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25, 2026 with a Global Release Date Trailer, and the official Steam store page's release field now reads October 5, 2026. The game launches free-to-play on PC via Steam and NC's PURPLE launcher, with servers in North America, South America, Europe and Asia.

  • Was AION 2 delayed from September to October?

Effectively yes. NC's June 5, 2026 Launch Reveal Trailer said AION 2 was launching globally in September 2026, and Steam carried a September 2026 label until August 25. The confirmed launch day is now October 5, 2026, which several outlets including Gematsu reported as a delay. NC did not describe it as a delay and has not published a reason for the change.

  • When does AION 2 Early Access start and end?

September 30 to October 4, 2026 — five days, ending the day before the October 5 free-to-play launch. Early Access requires a Founder's Pack (Standard $24.99, Deluxe $49.99, or Ultimate $99.99) and is playable only on the platform where the pack was bought, Steam or PURPLE. The September 30 start is unchanged from NC's July 22, 2026 notice.

  • Do I need to buy anything to play AION 2 on October 5?

No. AION 2 is free-to-play at global launch on both Steam and PURPLE. A Founder's Pack is only needed for the five-day Early Access period from September 30 to October 4, and NC has stated its pack contents are appearance-only cosmetics plus early-game consumables, with no stat advantages.
